A large College Station police presence outside a home on Monday that was first reported as a training exercise turned out to be a search warrant that led to one arrest on drug charges.

31 year old Eric Singleton is out of jail on bond following his arrest for possessing three containers totaling less than one ounce of marijuana and a bottle with an undisclosed number of Viagra pills without a prescription.

KBTX first reported the CSPD presence at a home on Straub Road. Chief Scott McCollum later apologized for misleading KBTX and their viewers. McCollum said the reason for delaying the reason they were there was to provide safety for their officers.

Letter from Scott McCollum to KBTX provided to WTAW by the College Station police department:

Police operations often involve dangerous situations that can compromise officer safety and as such, many times we must delay the release of information from the public until a potentially dangerous situation is stabilized.

Unfortunately today, during the execution of search warrant, representatives of the College Station Police Department conveyed to the media that we were instead, conducting a “training exercise”. While this information was conveyed in the heat of the moment and was intended to delay the release of information and therefore provide for safety of officers on scene. We should have never mislead the media and public on our purpose for being at the location.

I take full responsibility and apologize for this error in judgement and assure you that College Station Police Department is better than we performed today.

Scott McCollum
Chief of Police
College Station Police Department
