Area Highways Shut Down

Highways in Robertson and Madison counties were shut down Wednesday due to crashes and spills.

One crash was on Highway 21 near the Navasota River bridge in Madison County. This was at the intersection of 21 and FM 2865.

The first of two incidents on Highway 6 south of Hearne was when a semi lost its load near the weigh station.  Due to the oil-based content of the load which made the pavement slick, the roadway was closed to allow a crew from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to remove the material.

DPS trooper Jimmy Morgan says a southbound SUV hit the oil patch and slid off the road. The SUV came to a stop in a ditch upside down. Morgan says the driver and two passengers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. All three were restrained, including a three year old in a child safety seat.

While that was going on, there was a crash on Highway 6 next to the Derek Scott dealership involving two semis. Morgan says while one semi was in the process of making a turn, it was rear-ended by the other rig. There were no injuries.

TxDOT reported all lanes on Highway 6 were opened to traffic shortly before 4 p.m., which was nearly six hours after the first incident.
