WASHINGTON – Texas A&M men’s tennis rising sophomore Jordi Arconadaand former All-American Austin Krajicek are set to take part in the qualifying rounds of the ATP World Tour Citi Open in Washington D.C. beginning Saturday morning.
Arconada earned his place in the qualifier by winning the Citi Open Wild Card Challenge in June. The right-hander trained at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in nearby College Park prior to arriving in College Station last January. The Argentinian reached the Wild Card Challenge final last year before falling to Francis Tiafoe. Arconada will face off against his country mate Guido Pella, the winner will face the winner of Eric Quigley and Yuichi Suigata for a place in the Open field.
Krajicek featured for the maroon and white from 2008-2011, earning All-American honors all four years in doubles and his final two years in singles action. The Bradenton, Florida native enters action in Washington ranked No. 129 by the ATP earning him the eighth seed in the qualifying draw. The lefty will face Marinko Matosevic in the first round of qualifying, the winner will face the winner of Rajeev Ram and Takuto Niki for a spot in the main draw.
