Apartment Fire Displaces 21 & Injures Three

Monday 5 p.m. update:

Battalion Chief Robert Mumford said the cause of the fire was a furnace servicing one of the upstairs apartments igniting the framing that holds the furnace.

12 of the 20 units in the apartment building were occupied at the time of the fire.

In addition to minor injuries to one occupant and two firefighters who were treated at the scene, Mumford says a cat was rescued.

Monday 2 p.m. update begins with a timeline from the College Station fire department:

5:00 am 911 call to CSFD

5:01 am CSFD arrives on the scene with heavy fire showing from the roof of a two-story apartment structure. Crews begin fire extinguishment and primary searches of the 20 unit building.

5:13 am PD assists with blocking Harvey Road down for unit staging

5:27 am Requested assistance from Bryan Fire Department for an additional Engine and their Ladder to respond.

-Off duty personnel were requested to assistance along with calling in today’s shift at an earlier time.

• Building C had 20 apartment units: The 10 upstairs units received major fire damage, the 10 downstairs units received smoke and water damage.

• Upon arrival, heavy fire was showing venting through the roof. Difficult fire to extinguish due to the common attic space in which the fire ran through.

• One civilian tenant was treated on scene for smoke inhalation and released.

• Two firefighters sustained minor injuries and were treated on scene.

• A total of 21 tenants were displaced; CSFD’s Community Action Response Team (CART) assisted with residences along with Red Cross.

• 19 total fire department units including an engine and ladder from Bryan Fire Dept. Approximately 50 firefighters on scene.

• Fire Marshal’s Office is still investigating the fire for an exact cause.

• Assistance from CSPD, CS Utilities, CSFD’s CART and REHAB team, American Red Cross, Bryan Fire Department and apartment management.

Monday noon update:

College Station firefighters are still investigating the cause of an early morning fire at Campus View apartments that displaced residents from 20 units.

Assistant fire chief Paul Gunnels says one person was treated on the scene for light smoke inhalation.

Gunnels says fire and heavy smoke was coming from Building C when units arrived on scene shortly after 5 a.m.

The Red Cross says they will be assisting victims Monday afternoon between three and five at Connecting Point Church, across the street from the apartments.

Harvey Road was reopened about 11 a.m., after being closed for six hours.

Twenty apartment units were affected in a fire that was first reported to College Station Fire Department at 5:01 a.m. Monday.

Public Information Officer, Jay Socol said 50 firefighters were on scene at the Campus View Apartments.

Injuries were limited to one person with light smoke inhalation who was treated on the scene.

Harvey Road was still closed at 9 a.m. as five arson investigators were on scene, but no source was identified.

Bryan FD assisted with one fire engine and ladder for a total of six fire engines, two ladder trucks and one command vehicle.
