TROUP, Texas (AP) _ Authorities say an object resembling a pipe bomb has been found in a mailbox in front of an east Texas post office for the second time in three days.
Federal officials have acknowledged they are investigating a series of apparent incendiary devices placed in east Texas mailboxes in the past month.
Authorities say a device was found Thursday in Troup, about 100 miles east of Dallas. It’s similar to one found Tuesday in a collection box in front of a post office in Laird Hill, 20 miles to the northeast.
The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says the Laird Hill device was explosive before bomb-disposal experts rendered it safe. Further details about the device found Thursday were not available as of early evening.
