BRYAN- Texas A&M’s women’s golf team got the 2015-16 season underway with a solid performance at Traditions Club in Bryan Sunday, but fell 6.5-2.5 to Texas in a special-format dual match.
“I am proud of the way the team played today, especially our newcomers,” said Texas A&M head coach Trelle McCombs. “We had strong performances and made a lot of birdies, but Texas just made a few more than us today, which is a credit to their play.”
The morning session featured three best ball matches, including a battle between Texas’ Hayley Mills and Natalie Karcher against A&M newcomersChloe Velasco and Emily Campbell, who lost 1 Down on the 18th hole.
In the afternoon session of match play, the Aggies were led by wins fromThanya Pattamakijsakul, who defeated Sophia Schubert 2&1, and Bianca Fabrizio, who defeated Maddie Luitwieler 2&1. Maddie Szeryk halved her match with Karcher.
In addition, both A&M newcomers took their matches to the 18th hole, butEmily Campbell fell 2 Down and Chloe Velasco lost by a score of 1 Down.Andrea Jonama had the other counting match for the Aggies, losing 5&4 to Mills.
The Aggies return to action on from Oct. 19-21 at the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Okla. The Aggies next host an event on May 5-7, as an NCAA Regional comes to
College Station.
