A&M’s Erickson Named SEC Golfer of the Week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A day after earning his first collegiate victory, Texas A&M sophomore Dan Erickson was named SEC Golfer of the Week on Wednesday. It was the second consecutive weekly honor for the Aggie men’s golf program, which also saw Chandler Phillips garner the accolade last week.
Erickson took medalist honors at the 33rd annual Louisiana Classics (Feb. 26-27) to post his first career individual win with a three-round total of 10-under par (69-69-68=206, -10). His performance helped the Aggies capture the team title at the event, giving Texas A&M its school-record fifth tournament win in seven events this season.
The Whittier, Calif., native was below par all three rounds in Louisiana, beginning with back-to-back scorecards of 69 (-3) before overtaking the top spot on the leaderboard with a closing round of four-under (68). Erickson has two top-10 finishes in three events this season. Additionally, he has produced a 70.67 stroke average and has been under par in seven of nine total rounds midway through his sophomore campaign.
Erickson and his Aggie teammates are back in action March 10-11 when they travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C., for the General Hackler Championship at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club.
