A&M’s Aiple Named SEC Freshman Volleyball Player of the Week

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M setter Stephanie Aiple has been named the SEC Freshman Player of the Week for volleyball, the Southeastern Conference announced today. It marks the third time the Round Rock, Texas, native has received the honor.

Aiple, who leads all freshmen setters in the SEC and is fifth overall in the league with 10.76 assists per set for the full season, averaged 11.14 assists per set and also hit .400 while directing the A&M offense to back-to-back .330-plus hitting percentages in wins against Arkansas and Missouri last week.

Aiple had 37 assists in the sweep against Missouri to surpass 1,000 assists, and she also had 10 digs to post her team-leading seventh double-double of the season. She averaged 2.71 digs per set for the week.

With the victories, A&M extended its winning streak to four matches, marking its longest winning streak in SEC play this season. The Aggies moved to 11-5 in SEC matches, surpassing their number of conference wins last year, and climbed to fourth place in the league standings. A&M improved to 19-8 overall and needs one win in its final two matches to reach the 20-win milestone for the third time in four years and for the 15th time in Laurie Corbelli’s 22-year tenure as head coach of the Aggies.

Aiple and the Aggies close out the regular season this week with a pair of road matches, facing Mississippi State, Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Newell-Grissom Building in Starkville and Ole Miss, Friday at 4 p.m. at the Gillom Sports Center in Oxford. A&M is a combined 11-0 in the all-time series against both Mississippi schools.
