American Airlines Recently Added Flights At Easterwood Airport While Service May Be Reduced At Other Airports

The operator of Easterwood Airport for the Texas A&M system has not heard anything from American Airlines about reducing service this fall.

John Clanton at Astin Aviation says just the opposite has happened, as American increased the number of flights the week before last to as many as three flights a day.

The Associated Press reports American is considering reduced service starting October 1 at 30 smaller airports unless Congress sends more money to cover payroll costs due to the pandemic. The AP reports American has received almost $6 billion dollars to maintain current schedules through September 30.

From the Associated Press:

DALLAS (AP) _ American Airlines is considering dropping flights to up to 30 smaller U.S. cities this fall. A federal requirement to keep flying to those cities expires at the end of next month unless it is extended by Congress. U.S. airlines were required to maintain flights to all the cities they served before the pandemic as a condition of getting $25 billion in money to help cover payrolls. American got $5.8 billion. But that money, and the requirement to keep serving smaller cities ends in Sept. 30. Airlines and their unions are asking for $25 billion more to cover payrolls through next March.
