BRADENTON, Fla.- The Texas A&M women’s golf team shot a 312 (+24) at the 2015 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship at The Concession Golf Club, but now must wait for help in order to advance as one of the top 15 teams to play in Monday’s final round of stroke play. The Aggies were in the clubhouse in 18thplace when the horn blew to halt the third round due to darkness.
For A&M to advance as one of the top 15 schools, South Carolina (+59), UCLA (+64) and Wake Forest (+60) must end up with scores of +69-or-higher for the tournament, with all three schools having four golfers on the course with two to five holes remaining. A tie would be resolved by a playoff. Even if Texas A&M does not advance as one of the top 15 schools, sophomore Marijosse Navarro will advance as one of the top nine individuals not on an advancing team.
Navarro shot a 1-over 73 on the par 72 / 6,468 course, bringing her tournament total to 224 (+8), making her tied for 18th in the competition.
Maddie Szeryk shot a 7-over 79 on Sunday, bringing her tournament standing to 229 (+13) and a tie for 42nd place. Bianca Fabrizio shot a 9-over 81, putting her in 112th place at 245 (+29). Thanya Pattamakijsakul shot a 79 (+7), and is 114th at 246 (+30).
Andrea Jonama rounded out the A&M lineup with a 83 (+11) on Sunday and a 251 (+35) for the tournament.
The Aggies will finish no worse than 18th nationally, marking the sixth top 18 finish in the eight years under head coach Trelle McCombs. A&M finishes in the top 23 nationally for the ninth time in the past 12 seasons.
The fourth and final round of stroke play begins at 9:50 a.m. CT, with coverage on the Golf Channel from 3-6 p.m. CT. Tee times for Navarro and the rest of the A&M team, should the Aggies advance, are yet to be determined.
