A&M Volleyball has Cos-Okpalla Named Defensive Player of the Week

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M volleyball’s Ifenna Cos-Okpalla was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week following the Aggies’ two wins this past weekend over Georgia and LSU, the league announced Monday afternoon.

Cos-Okpalla earned the third SEC weekly honor of the season and fifth of her career, as she was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week. The middle blocker strung together two dominant showings at the net in the Aggies’ final two home matches of the year versus the bulldogs and Tigers.

In the opening fixture of the weekend versus Georgia, the Flower Mound, Texas, native logged a season-high 13 blocks, that mark tied the A&M program record for blocks in a four-set match and stands as the highest total in a match in the conference this year, while also ranking second in the nation in four sets this season.

Doubling down versus LSU, Cos-Okpalla once again put on a clinic with 10 total blocks in the match, as she became the only player in the conference to record back-to-back double-digit block games this year. The junior also had a career day offensively versus the Tigers, recording a career-high 13 kills which helped her achieve the first double-double of her career.

Cos-Okpalla and the Aggies conclude their regular-season slate Saturday in Columbia, South Carolina, as they take on the Gamecocks with first serve set for 12 p.m.
