A&M Swimming & Diving On Top at Art Adamson Invitational

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M remained dominant at the Art Adamson Invitational Thursday night, with both men’s and women’s teams held on to first place. The men boosted their point total to 780.5, while the women increased their score to 845.5.
The Maroon & White got things started in a big way with the women’s 200 medley relay squad of Kaitlyn Owens, Bobbi Kennett, Olivia Theall and Chloe Stepanek notching an NCAA B-cut time of 1:36.76. The men’s squad of Thomas Shomper, Travis Gulledge, Connor Foote and Ben Scholl clocked a B-cut of their own with a 1:23.74, the fifth-fastest in program history.
In the 100 fly, Theall claimed first with a season-best time of 51.51, and Katie Walker took third with a 53.79. On the men’s side, Foote went a B-cut time of 45.17, his lowest on the year.
The Aggie women were in command of the 400 IM with four of the five fastest times. Giulia Goerigk topped the heat with a season-best 4:10.11, while Hannah O’Leary (4:14.22), Kaylee Coffey (4:16.70) and Lydia Palmer (4:18.21) all lowered season-best times. Baylor Nelson (3:39.35) and Munzy Kabbara (3:44.47) each posted season-best times to go one-two in the men’s 400 IM.
Stepanek (1:45.01), Jordan Buechler (1:45.95) and Hayden Miller (1:46.81) swept the top-three in the 200 free, each recording an NCAA B-cut. Collin Fuchs topped the men’s 200 free B-final with a season-best 1:37.51.
Five Aggie men competed in the 100 breast A-final. Gulledge (51.86), Alex Sanchez (52.07), Lane White (53.27), Vincent Ribeiro (53.46) and Logan Brown (53.70) recorded five of the six fastest times. Bobbi Kennett and Ella McQuinn landed in the top-three of the women’s 100 breast, going 1:00.32 and 1:00.69, respectively.
After recording the fifth-fastest 100 back time in program history as the relay leadoff on day one, Owens lowered her personal best to 51.79 to remain fifth all-time in the individual 100 back event. Shomper and Tyler Hulet topped the men’s 100 back heat, each recording NCAA B-cut times. Shomper touched the wall first with a time of 46.31 and Hulet finished closely behind with a 46.49.
Texas A&M held the two fastest women’s 800 medley relay times. The squad of Theall, Buechler, Miller and Stepanek clocked a 7:08.96 and the team of Katie Walker, Aviv Barzelay, O’Leary and McQuinn recorded a 7:16.21. The men’s 800 free relay team of Jacob Wimberly, Nelson, Scholl and Kabbara placed first with a time of 6:24.64. Wimberly’s leadoff time of 1:34.85 earned him NCAA B-cut qualifications and is good for the eighth-fastest in program history.
