The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents hold their last meeting of the calendar year Thursday.
The agenda includes $65 million dollars of construction projects in College Station.
Announced over a year ago, Regents are poised to take final action on a new Liberal Arts and Arts & Humanities building at the flagship campus. Construction of the $46 million dollar, four-story building is scheduled to start next month and take one and a half years to complete. It will be located between the Administration and History buildings.
Regents are also being asked to increase the budget for the renovation and expansion of the Memorial Student Center and University Complex by $11 million dollars. There will be a three floor addition on the northwest corner for additional student meeting space along with office space for the Regents. There’s no change in the completion date, which is the summer of 2012.

As previously reported, Regents take up an additional $7 million dollars to expand Olsen Field. Naming rights are involved there, along with $750,000 dollars towards a three million dollar turfgrass research facility. And there’s a $250,000 gift from Congressman-elect Bill Flores and his wife Gina, naming the large study area on the first floor of the Evans Library in honor of Gina’s parents.
Other Regents business involves Aggies athletics. Requests includes authorizing President Bowen Loftin to proceed with amending employment contracts with head women’s basketball coach Gary Blair and head baseball coach Rob Childress. No details were included with the agenda. And an update is scheduled on progress made by the Athletic Department on budget issues identified during an audit last year.
