A&M Receive State & Regional Approval for HSC Merger and Law School

Texas A&M University continues the process of acquiring a law school and getting control the Health Science Center (HSC) from the university system.

President Bowen Loftin recently told a gathering of university staff approval for both was given by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSOC).

Regarding the HSC, Dr. Loftin notified the university community by e-mail that July 15 will be the official merger date. Loftin also wrote, “Over the coming months, we will work to appropriately integrate systems and processes across a number of departments and units while maintaining the Health Science Center’s distinct organizational identity. These activities are important steps in preparation for the SACSOC site visit that will occur within the next six months to affirm the accreditation status of the entire university.”

Regarding A&M’s acquisition of the Texas Wesleyan law school in Ft. Worth, Loftin says the American Bar Association (ABA) will spend July and August reviewing their application. If the ABA approves, Loftin says everything will be cleared to take over the law school, probably in early September.
