A&M Planning Worst Case Budget Scenario

More jobs could be lost at Texas A&M University. This week’s online column from President R. Bowen Loftin lays out the worst case scenario.

In the budget starting a year from now, A&M is planning for a $60 million dollar cut. That includes laying off 210 employees AND not filling 275 vacancies. This follows last week’s layoff of 66 in a restructuring of the Operations division.

While this is planning the budget that doesn’t start until September of next year, Dr. Loftin wrote some may be asked to act almost immediately due to rules governing personnel appointments and other circumstances.

Information gathering continues, which included a meeting Tuesday of administrators, faculty, staff, and students that’s supposed to develop recommendations to the president.

Dr. Loftin also announced in September he will be hosting town hall meetings on campus.
