Nearly 50 emergency responders from the Texas Forest Service are headed to south Texas to deal with Alex.
The tropical storm, predicted to be a hurricane, is expected to make landfall Wednesday.
The Forest Service, based at the A&M System office in College Station, provides command and leadership support to communities in need of help following a disaster.
Generally, the teams are tasked with tracking resources in different counties, operating resource distribution points and staging areas or providing support for public information.
The National Weather Service relayed to the Forest Service that in south Texas, Alex could generate hurricane force winds, heavy rain, and flash flooding.
Between Wednesday and Friday, up to 12 inches of rain is expected with isolated areas receiving up to 16 inches. The storm surge is forecasted at six to eight feet along the coast, and possibly up to 12 feet near South Padre.
