A&M Consol FFA at State

Six members of the A&M Consolidated FFA chapter, placed first in their respective contests at the Texas FFA Agriscience Fair during the 82nd annual Texas FFA Convention held in Corpus Christi July 13-16.

Colton Hanson won in individual botany and David Rooney won individual zoology.

In addition, Calli McIntyre and Jordan Brown won in team botany, while Victoria Pilger and Kristin Kasper won in team zoology.

These six state award winners will receive a $1000 scholarship and advance to the National FFA Agriscience Fair in October in Indianapolis.

More than 90 teams participated in the state competition, which fuses the traditional science fair with agriculture.

Pilger and William Rooney were awarded the Lone Star Degree which is the highest degree bestowed by the Texas FFA.

Paden Denman competing in the goat tying and barrel racing events and Pilger and Mitchell Isbell served as area and district officers, respectfully. Other members attending the convention and serving as voting delegates included Alexis Roach, Austin Livingston and Nikki Barnett.

As a group, the Consol FFA chapter received the prestigious Gold Emblem rating and ranked third in the state FFA chapter contest.

The Gold Emblem rating is only bestowed upon the top 10 percent of FFA chapters in Texas. Chapters that received the Gold Emblem rating actively implement the FFA mission and strategies. These chapters improved their chapter operations by using a program of activities, which emphasizes student, chapter and community development.
