Well the Cotton Bowl knew who they wanted and Texas A&M knew where they wanted to go and the match was made yesterday as the Aggies accepted the Cotton’s invitation to play presumably either LSU or Alabama on Jan. 7th at Cowboys Stadium in the 75th anniversary game of one of the oldest post-season games.
It will be A&M’s 12th visit to Dallas for the Cotton Bowl, their first since losing to Tennessee 38-7 in the game following the 2004 season.
By picking A&M early, it means the Cotton is passing on the possible availability of the Nebraska-Oklahoma loser this Saturday, or even Missouri or Oklahoma State, teams that had equal or better records than A&M and also tied for their division title.
The Cotton gets the second pick of Big12 teams after the Fiesta Bowl automatically gets the Big 12 Champ
The Alamo Bowl, then the Insite Bowl, then the Holiday Bowl get the next three picks of Big 12 Schools.
As for an opponent, the Cotton will get the second pick of an SEC team after the Capitol One Bowl picks. LSU is ranked 10th by the BCS and Alabama 16th.
