The source of a “Code Maroon” alert Thursday on the Texas A&M University campus was a student carrying a replica rifle.
University Police Chief Elmer Schneider says the student is visiting with investigators. Schneider says the student was walking to their car and had driven to their home.
University spokesman Lane Stephenson says University Police received a report Thursday afternoon at 3:30 that a man was carrying a rifle inside Rudder Tower. That led to the alert, which was lifted at 5:34 p.m.
University officials said Rudder was the only building under lockdown, while others on campus told WTAW said they couldn’t leave.
University police was assisted by the Bryan and College Station Police Departments and the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office.
