Alamo Banner Proposed

SAN ANTONIO (AP) _ A banner about the Battle of the Alamo could soon grace the side of a towering building in San Antonio.

A proposal for a 13-story banner heralding the 175th anniversary of the battle is scheduled to go before the city’s Historic and Design Review Commission on Wednesday.

The San Antonio Express-News reports the banner would hang from a windowless brick wall of the Emily Morgan Hotel near the Alamo.

The city’s Office of Historic Preservation recommends approval of the banner, from early October to April 2011 to coincide with the anniversary of the Texas Revolution.

The Battle of the Alamo was March 6, 1836. Texas won its independence from Mexico at the Battle of San Jacinto the following month.
