A Bryan man was charged Sunday with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after his car struck a parked truck and pushed it into the owner.
Thirty-year-old Gabino Reyes-Vazquez was driving north on Wellborn Road at 5:39 p.m. when his sedan left the road, jumped a curb, crossed a grass island, and struck the Ford F-250.
Police said he fled the scene, but was found about 10-minutes later.
When questioned about the accident, Reyes-Vazquez told police the “other” car came from the opposite side of Wellborn and hit him, but made no mention of hitting a parked car.
The police report said he had been intoxicated when the accident occurred and asked the Brazos County District Attorney’s office for an elevated charge.
The DA agreed since he “was reckless in causing [the victim’s] injuries while [Reyes-Vazquez’s] own vehicle acted as the weapon.”
The victim told police he had just left the Subway at the intersection of Wellborn and Rock Prairie and was standing behind his vehicle when the accident occurred, sending him several feet through the air. He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said Reyes-Vazquez was treated at Scott & White Hospital for injuries, including multiple lacerations and an arterial bleed.
He was released today on $30,000 bond.
