COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies were selected No. 5 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Preseason Ranking, the NSCAA announced on Monday.
Texas A&M polled first among SEC schools, one of four league teams in the preseason Top 25. They were joined by Florida (No. 8), South Carolina (No. 11) and Kentucky (No. 16). The Aggies are the top-ranked team from the Lone Star State, placing ahead of No. 15 Texas Tech.
Defending national champion Florida State was picked first followed by Virginia, Stanford and UCLA. The Aggies travel to Tallahassee for a match against No. 1 Florida State on September 4.
Texas A&M returns 10 letterwinners, including three starters, from the 2014 campaign. The list of returnees includes 2014 All-SEC Second Team midfielder Janae Cousineau and 2014 Freshman All-SEC defender McKayla Paulson.
The Aggies finished the 2014 season ranked No. 4 in the NSCAA Coaches Poll, the highest ever final ranking for the Maroon and White. A&M posted a 22-3-2 record for the year, earned their first-ever College Cup appearance and repeated as SEC regular-season titlists and SEC Tournament champions. The Aggies appeared in their 20th consecutive NCAA Division I Championship, advanced to the Second Round for the 17th consecutive year and appeared in the Sweet 16 for the 13th time in program history.
