COLLEGE STATION- In front of an electric crowd of 7,188, Texas A&M defeated Nicholls State 73-39 on Elementary School Day. The crowd was the second-largest for a regular season non-conference women’s game in Reed Arena history.
Over 20 schools from the Bryan-College Station area were in attendance, making the crowd the 17th-largest overall to see a women’s game at Reed Arena. It was the Aggies’ largest audience so far this season, home or away.
The Aggies and Colonels traded the first baskets of the game, then A&M went on a 20-4 run to take a 22-6 lead, and did not look back. Nicholls was the third A&M opponent to score 20-or-less in the first half this year, as Texas A&M led 40-19 at the break.
A&M held Nicholls to just five field goals in the second half, as A&M cruised to victory.
Courtney Williams had 14 points, reaching double figures for the fourth straight game. Courtney Walker joined her in double figures with 11, giving her nine straight games in double digits.
The Aggies next go to New York City and Madison Square Garden to take part in the Maggie Dixon Classic against St. John’s on Dec. 22 at 10 a.m. CT. The game is televised on ESPNU. The Aggies return home on Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. to host Louisiana Tech.
