Aggies Dominate Series Finale to Complete Kentucky Sweep

LEXINGTON, Kentucky – No. 18 Texas A&M pounded out 19 hits and the bullpen weaved together 8.1 innings of work as the Aggies completed the three-game series sweep of the Kentucky Wildcats with a 17-5 victory Sunday afternoon at Kentucky Proud Park.

The Maroon & White had seven different players register multiple hits and every Aggie starter scored a run, including seven players registering multiple runs, as Texas A&M offered no quarter to the Wildcat pitching staff.

Braden Shewmake was 5-for-6 at the plate with one double, two runs and two RBI. He finished the weekend 10-for-16 with five runs, one double, two home runs and nine RBI. Jonathan Ducoff batted 3-for-5 with one walk, one double, two runs and two RBI. Bryce Blaum was 2-for-5 with one double, one triple, one walk, three runs and two RBI. Mikey Hoehner logged four RBI.

Joseph Menefee (2-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen. He scattered one hit, two walks and one hit batsman while striking out three in 3.1 scoreless innings. Aggie starter Christian Roa was unable to get out of the first inning. He yielded two runs on two hits, two walks and one hit batter over 0.2 of an inning. Bryce Miller struck out seven of the 11 batters he faced in 3.0 blank frames to earn his first career save.

SCORING SUMMARY
B1 | With one out, Ryan Shinn homered to leftfield for his third dinger of the weekend. T.J. Collett was issued a four-pitch walk and advanced to second on an error when Braden Shewmaketried to double him off on a lineout by Cam Hill. Elliott Curtis knocked in Collett with a single to rightfield. UK 2, A&M 0.

T3 | With two outs, Bryce Blaum drew a four-pitch walk, stole second base and scored when Cam Blake bounced a single up the middle. Shewmake stroked a single to rightfield to put runners on the corners and Jonathan Ducoff singled through the left side to plate Blake with the equalizer. A&M 2, UK 2.

T5 | With one out, Shewmake singled off the pitcher’s glove and Ducoff followed with a single to centerfield to put runners on the corners. Ty Coleman drove in one with an opposite single to knock in the go-ahead run. Mikey Hoehner also went the other way through the right side to drive in two. A Logan Foster sacrifice fly inflated the cushion to four runs and Blaum continued the trend of opposite field hits with his two-run triple down the rightfield line. The cavalcade of runs was capped off by Shewmake’s two-run double to right center. A&M 10, UK 2.

B5 | Kentucky greeted reliever Chris Weber rudely with singles by Hill and Curtis. Coltyn Kessler bounced a ground-rule double over the wall in left-center to knock in Hill and Curtis scored on a groundout to second base by Marshall Gei. Kessler touched home on a groundout up the middle by Dalton Reed. A&M 10, UK 5.

T6 | With two outs, Foster legged out an infield single and kept the wheels going to score on a double to left-center by Hunter Coleman. A&M 11, UK 5.

T9 | The karma continued into the Aggies’ last raps. With one out, Hunter Coleman launched a solo home run over the wall in left-center. Blaum followed with a double to right-center, he moved to third on a groundout by Cam Blake and scored on a wild pitch. Shewmake poked a single to left-center for his fifth hit of the day and he came around to score on a double by Ducoff. Ty Coleman plated Ducoff with a single to leftfield and Hoehner capped off the cavalcade of runs with a double to left-center. A&M 17, UK 5.

UP NEXT
The Aggies return to action Tuesday when they host the Lamar Cardinals in a 6:32 p.m. contest on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
