Aggies Defeat Southern, Improve to 8-2

HOUSTON- Texas A&M women’s basketball won its third straight game, defeating Southern 81-58 in a women’s basketball game at the Campbell Center. Five Aggies scored in double figures, with three posting double doubles.

The Aggies (8-2) jumped out to a 41-23 lead by halftime, in a game that Southern (2-5) never led.

This was the second time this season that at least two Aggies had double doubles, with Khaalia Hillsman, Anriel Howard and Curtyce Knox doing so in this game. Howard leads the SEC with seven double doubles this season, and Curtyce Knox had the first of her career.

Hillsman led the scoring with a career-high 22, followed by Jasmine Lumpkin, who had a career-high 17. Howard added 12, Knox had 11 and Taylor Cooper had 10.

Texas A&M returns to action on Tuesday, December 20 to take on Dayton at 12 p.m. CT in the Florida Sunshine Classic at Winter Park, Fla. The Aggies return to Reed Arena on Wednesday, December 28 at a new start time of 1 p.m. to take on Prairie View A&M.

  • Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair is 317-131 in 14 seasons at Texas A&M and 725-294 in his Hall of Fame career, which ties for seventh among active coaches.
