HOOVER, Alabama – Chris Andritsos went deep twice and Asa Lacyand Cason Sherrod combined on a three-hitter as the Texas A&M Aggies shut out the No. 9 Georgia Bulldogs, 7-0, in the second round of the SEC Tournament Wednesday at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
Lacy (3-1) was dominant in his second career start. He scattered three hits and three walks while logging a career-high eight strikeouts in 6.0 innings, his longest outing as an Aggie. Sherrod came in to work the final three frames, retiring nine of 10 batters he faced on his way to his first save of the season. The pair combined for 13 strikeouts and limited to Georgia to three total bases, their season low. Georgia failed to score for the fourth time this season, with Aggie pitching accounting for two of the games.
After a weather delay of 58 minutes interrupted the third inning, the Aggie offense came out with two runs in the fourth off Georgia starter C.J. Smith (1-1) to take the game’s first lead. A&M extended their advantage on Andritsos’ homers in the seventh and ninth. A&M offense has scored 10 unanswered runs in the tourney after trailing Vanderbilt early on Tuesday.
Andritsos finished 3-for-5 with two dingers, three runs and four RBI. Logan Foster, Allonte Wingate and Cole Bedford each added two hits with Wingate logging two RBI.
