KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Texas A&M Aggies qualified for their first-ever SEC Tournament, earning the No. 9 seed, it was announced as the league released the tournament bracket on Saturday evening. The Aggies will play the No. 8 seed Florida Gators at 4:30 pm Central on Tuesday, May 21 at Hoover (Ala.) Metropolitan Stadium.
The game between the Aggies and Gators is slated to be televised on Comcast SportsNet South. The loser is eliminated from the tournament. The winner advances to play No. 1 seed Vanderbilt in the double elimination portion of the tournament on Wednesday, May 22.
Other seeds in A&M’s portion of the bracket include No. 4 South Carolina, No. 5 Mississippi State and No. 12 Missouri. The other side of the bracket includes No. 2 LSU, No. 3 Arkansas, No. 6 Ole Miss, No. 7 Alabama, No. 10 Alabama and No. 11 Kentucky.
Texas A&M and Florida have met on seven prior occasions with the Aggies holding a 6-1 advantage in the series. Texas A&M swept the Gators in a three-game series in 2007 and won two-of-three in Gainesville in 2006. The first meeting came at the 1992 NCAA East Regional in Gainesville when the Aggies posted a 6-5 win to eliminate the host.
The Maroon and White won three of the last six Big 12 Championships, all in Oklahoma City. Texas A&M played in 14 of 16 Big 12 Championships, only missing out on the 2005 and 2006 editions.
The Aggies ended the regular-season with a 30-25 overall record and a 13-16 mark in league play.
