Aggie Women’s Golf Caps Historic Season in NCAA Bryan Regional

BRYAN- Texas A&M’s women’s golf team closed their historic 2015-16 season with a 12th place finish at the 2016 NCAA Bryan Regional at Traditions Club. The Aggies were led by Maddie Szeryk, who shot 2-under on Saturday and finished the tournament in a tie for 12th place.

Szeryk led the Aggies with a 2-under 70 on Saturday, which placed her at 215 (-1) for the tournament. Szeryk, a sophomore, has finished at exactly 1-under and in the top 20 in each of her NCAA Regional appearances. The Aggies have had at least one golfer finish at par-or-better for three straight NCAA Regionals, and in six of the last nine NCAA Regionals.

Szeryk’s finish moves her career stroke average to 72.00, which ties her withMarijosse Navarro for Texas A&M’s career record. Szeryk’s season ranks third in stroke average and third in par-or-better rounds.

Andrea Jonama shot an even-par 72 on the Aggies’ home course, finishing the tournament at 226 (+10), tying for 53rd place. Callie Scheffler shot a 76 (+4) on the par 72 / 6,373 yard course, finishing with a 225 (+9), tying for 50th place.

Bianca Fabrizio shot a 5-over 77 on Saturday, finishing with a 227 (+11), and tying for 59th. Thanya Pattamakijsakul shot a 9-over 81, and finished with a 233 (+17) in a tie for 73rd.

Georgia finished first with an 858 (-6), which set the Traditions Club 54-hole team record. UCLA’s Bronte Law and Georgia’s Bailey Tardy tied at 209 (-7) for first place individually, which matched the Traditions Club record.

The Aggies capped a historic season that saw Texas A&M post the second-most par-or-better rounds as a team, the second-most birdies as a team, and three of the nine best 18-hole team scores in school history. Szeryk finished second on the school’s sophomore season stroke average list, and Fabrizio, Pattamakijsakul and Jonama all finished in the top six of the junior season stroke average list.

Texas A&M is set to return all of their lineup for 2016-17, which includes the four players in the top 8 of the Aggies’ career stroke average list, and four of the top 10 in career par-or-better rounds.
