News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
EUGENE – The Texas A&M track & field team will have 28 representatives at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, as 11 current student-athletes and 17 pros look to book their ticket to Paris. The meet is held at Hayward Field with events beginning Friday, June 21 and running through Sunday, June 30.
The Aggies have a rich tradition in the Olympics during the Pat Henry era, producing 43 Olympians and claiming nine medals across four games, including five gold, two silver and two bronze.
A&M had three athletes secure five medals at the most recent Tokyo Games. Athing Mu won the women’s 800m title and was one of the runners on the 4x400m gold-medal winning team, Bryce Deadmon also secured Olympic gold in the men’s 4x400m relay and added a bronze in the mixed 4x400m relay and finally Fred Kerley claimed silver in the men’s 100m.
The current athletes enter the championships with momentum from the NCAA Outdoor Championships, where the men’s team placed fifth and the women 10th. Auhmad Robinson and Jevon O’Bryant from the national championship winning men’s 4x400m team will be competing in the individual 400m events, while heptathlon champion Timara Chapman will also compete, entering the meet with the second-largest point total among American’s this year.
A&M also travels another six 2024 outdoor NCAA All-Americans to the meet, including Ja’Qualon Scott, Sam Whitmarsh, Jermaisha Arnold, Jaiya Covington, Semira Killebrew and Camryn Dickson. Rounding out the group is indoor NCAA All-American Connor Schulman and standout freshman McKenzie Fairchild.
The trials define high-stakes performances, as athletes who finish in the top three of their respective events and reach the Olympic qualifying standard will ensure their spot on Team USA.
Fans can follow results and see the full schedule of the meet here, and stream the championships through NBC, Peacock and USA.
