Aggie Soccer to host Washington in First Round of NCAA Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies will host the Washington Huskies in an NCAA Division I Championship first round match at Ellis Field on Friday, November 13, the NCAA announced on Monday. First kick is slated for 7 pm.

Texas A&M received an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship by winning the SEC Tournament, keeping their streak alive at 21 consecutive years. The Aggies are one of five teams to make it to every NCAA Championship since 1995. The other schools include North Carolina (1982-2015), Notre Dame (1993-2015), Virginia (1994-2015) and Penn State (1995-2015). Texas A&M head coach G Guerrieri and North Carolina’s Anson Dorrance are the only two head coaches to appear in every NCAA Championship since 1995.

The Aggies are 15-6-1 on the season and advanced to the SEC Tournament title match, dropping a 2-1 decision to Florida on Sunday. The Maroon and White own the nation’s lengthiest active string of consecutive 15-win seasons with 12.

Texas A&M owns a nine-match NCAA Championship win streak at Ellis Field with the last postseason home loss coming in 2007. Last season, the Aggies went 4-0 at Ellis Field on their 2014 College Cup run.

Washington is 12-6-2 on the season and registered a 5-5-1 record in the Pac 12 Conference to finish tied for sixth in the league. The Huskies started the season winning seven of eight matches. They have since gone 5-5-2, including 5-5-1 in the Pac 12.

The teams have played two common opponents in Kentucky and UC Irvine. The Aggies scored a 1-0 win over Kentucky and a 4-0 victory against UC Irvine. Washington suffered a 1-0 loss at Kentucky in the season opener and toppled the Anteaters, 2-0.

Texas A&M owns a 4-0 edge in the all-time series against Washington, with the last meeting coming in College Station as part of the 2008 NCAA Championship, a 3-1 victory by the Aggies.

Texas A&M students will be admitted to the match free of charge.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.12thMan.com, in person at the Zone at Kyle Field box office, or over the phone at 1-888-99-AGGIE.

The winner of Friday’s match will face the winner of the Chapel Hill match between North Carolina and Liberty. Clemson, the highest seed team in the quadrant, is slated to host the second and third rounds if victorious. As one of the tournament’s 16 seeded teams, North Carolina would be the next in line to host second and third round matches. The Women’s College Cup will be played on December 4 & 6 in Cary, North Carolina.
