Aggie senior Karis Jochen earns women’s SEC Runner of the Week honor

BIRMINGHAM – A season opening victory for Karis Jochen at the Aggie Opener this past weekend has earned her the women’s SEC Runner of the Week honor. Jochen bettered the field by 35 seconds as she covered the 4,100m distance in 13:50.3 and led Texas A&M to a team victory as well.

Jochen, a College Station native in her senior campaign with the Aggies, earned a cross country All-America honor last season in placing among the top 40 at the NCAA Championships.

Previous conference honors in cross country for Jochen include the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2015. She also garnered SEC Runner of the Week honors twice in 2015 and once in 2014 as well as sharing a SEC Freshman of the Week accolade in 2013.

Alabama’s Antibahs Kosgei was selected for the men’s SEC Runner of the Week while SEC Freshman of the Week honors went to Kentucky’s Brennan Fields and Georgia’s Jessica Drop in the first week of cross country action for the 2016 season.
