NEW ORLEANS – Texas A&M men remain in the No. 1 position among the national team computer rankings produced by USTFCCCA while the Aggie women are currently No. 12.
This was the first week in which a majority of data from the 2015 season was eliminated from the computing process. The A&M men actually gained over 50 points in the tabulations for this week, increasing the lead it holds over No. 2 Florida. Meanwhile, the Aggie women dropped to No. 12 from the No. 5 position it had held the previous few weeks.
In the men’s top 10 following the A&M men are Florida, LSU, Arkansas, Georgia, Texas, Oregon, Alabama, Texas Tech and Virginia. Leading the women’s rankings are Arkansas followed by Kentucky, Oregon, Texas, Florida, LSU, USC, Kansas State, Tennessee and Harvard among the top 10.
Nine SEC schools are among the men’s top 25 while 10 conference schools are among the women’s top 25 rankings.
Six SEC programs will meet at Bernie Moore Stadium in Baton Rouge this Saturday for the LSU Invitational. The field competing in the scored meet includes Alabama (No. 8 men), Arkansas (No. 1 women, No. 4 men), Florida (No. 2 men, No. 5 women), Kentucky (No. 2 women), Miami (No.15 women), Texas A&M and host LSU (No. 3 men, No. 6 women).
Generating the high ranking for the Aggie men are a pair of national leaders in Fred Kerley, with a time of 45.10 seconds in the 400m, and Ioannis Kyriazis, who has thrown the javelin 268 feet, 7 inches.
Sporting the second best mark among the collegiate ranks this outdoor season include Audie Wyatt and Chase Wolfle, who share the A&M school record in the pole vault at 18-6 ½, as well as Latario Collie, who has a mark of 53-8 ½ in the triple jump. Robert Grant is currently third in the 400m hurdles (49.73) while Devin Jenkins ranks fourth in the 200m (20.39) and Hector Hernandez is sixth in the 800m (1:46.29).
In the relays the Aggie men rank second nationally in the 4×100 with a 39.02 while the 4×400 is third with a 3:02.96.
The A&M women have six events where athletes rank among the top 10 nationally this season. Maggie Malone is second in the javelin with her 198-0 school record, Shelbi Vaughan ranks third with a 199-3 in the discus and the 4×100 relay ranks fifth with a 43.29.
Jazmine Fray is eighth among collegians in the 800m with her school record effort of 2:03.25 while ranking ninth are Shamier Little with a 56.38 in the 400m hurdles and Annie Kunz with a score of 5,904 in the heptathlon.
