Aggie Football Puts Five on All-SEC Team

Five Texas A&M football players were selected to the Associated Press All-Southeastern Conference team, the news organization announced on Monday.

Earning a spot on the elite squad’s second team were senior offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi (Allen, Texas), senior placekicker Josh Lambo (Middleton, Wisc.), sophomore wide receiver Josh Reynolds (San Antonio, Texas) and true freshman Myles Garrett (Arlington, Texas), while true freshman wide receiver/return specialist Speedy Noil (New Orleans, La.) received honorable mention kudos.

Ogbuehi spent time at both the left and right tackle position while helping protect the SEC’s top passing attack. The Aggies were the only team in the SEC to average more than 300 passing yards per game with 306.4 yard per contest. The Aggies also led the conference with 35 passing touchdowns.

Lambo has connected on 12-of-14 field goals and 53-of-53 extra point tries for an incredible 97.0 percent success rate on all his placekick tries. Going into the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, Lambo is on pace to become A&M’s most accurate career placekicker with an 83.0 percentage, which is ahead of Randy Bullock’s record of 78.8 percent. He also carries a streak of 103 successful extra point tries, which is second only to Bullock’s record of 122.

In his first season with the Aggies after transferring from Tyler Junior College, Reynolds is the team leader in receiving yards and touchdowns and goes into the bowl game with 47 catches for 762 yards and 12 touchdowns. His 12 receiving TDs are the most ever by a first-year player in school history, and tied the overall school record set originally by Jeff Fuller in 2010 and matched by Mike Evans in 2013. A finalist for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, Reynolds is the only Aggie with at least one catch in all 12 games in 2014.

Garrett re-wrote the Texas A&M and SEC freshman record book with 11.0 quarterback sacks in his first season in Aggieland. Garrett had matched the old Texas A&M QB sack record of 5.5 by the third game of the season and took sole ownership in game 6 of 2014. In the ninth game of 2014 (fifth start), Garrett broke South Carolina’s Jadeveon Clowney’s SEC freshman record of 8.0 sacks. He also owns Texas A&M’s freshman standard for single game sacks with 3.5 against Louisiana-Monroe.

Noil led the Aggies in all-purpose yardage, punt returns and kickoff returns, while also delivering 44 catches for 559 yards and five touchdowns from his wide receiver spot. His 1,322 all-purpose yards are the fifth-best effort ever by a freshman at Texas A&M, and his 44 catches and 559 receiving yards also rank fifth-best by a freshman. In just the second game of his career, Noil tallied a 40-yard+ catch, a 50-yard+ kickoff return and a 60-yard+ punt return against Lamar, which had never been accomplished in school history.
