DES MOINES, Iowa – A total of 17 Aggies are scheduled to compete in the USATF Championships this week at Drake Stadium with the four-day meet serving as the Team USA selection meet for the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
The Texas A&M group includes 13 former members of the Aggie track and field team and four current members of this year’s A&M squad. Competition begins Thursday, July 25, and continues through Sunday, July 28.
Recent form charts by Track & Field News predict Jessica Beard to win the women’s 400m and Donavan Brazier to claim the men’s 800m. Top three finishes predicted by the magazine include Shamier Little as runner-up in the 400m hurdles and Fred Kerley for third in the 400m. Former Texas A&M volunteer assistant coach Ariana Ince is tabbed for second in the women’s javelin.
Finalist predictions include Ameer Webb (fourth, 200m), Maggie Malone (fifth, javelin), Annie Kunz (sixth, heptathlon) and Brazier (ninth, 1500m).
Members of this year’s A&M team competing in the national championships include Bryce Deadmon (400m), Sam Hardin (javelin), Ciynamon Stevenson (triple jump) and Jacob Wooten(pole vault).
Other Aggie alums entered in the USATF Championships include Aaliyah Brown (100m, 200m), Shaina Burns (high jump), Mylik Kerley (400m), Sammy Watson (800m), Will Williams (long jump) and Audie Wyatt (pole vault).
Coverage of the USATF Championships will be available through NBC, NBC Sports Network and NBC Sports Gold.
Thursday’s coverage will be on NBC Sports Gold starting at 2:45 p.m. (CT). Friday’s coverage starts on NBC Sports Gold at 12:30 p.m. and moves to NBC Sports Network from 6 to 8 p.m. On Saturday, the coverage opens at 1 p.m. on NBC Sports Gold and moves to NBC from 3 to 5 p.m.
Sunday will have coverage start at 3 p.m. on NBC Sports Gold, then NBC Sports Network from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by NBC from 7 to 8 p.m.
