An associate dean at Texas A&M’s college of agriculture is one of three finalists for the top job at the University of Tennessee’s ag school.
Alan Sams will be in Tennessee between December 7 and 9 to meet with employees, students, and community members as part of the final selection process to lead their ag and veterinary colleges and their extension agency.
Dr. Sams as been executive associate dean at A&M since 2009, and between 1999 and 2006 he was professor and head of the Poultry Science Department.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ Three finalists have been named in the search for the next chancellor of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture.
The Institute of Agriculture consists of UT Extension, AgResearch, the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and the College of Veterinary Medicine.
The finalists are: Tim Cross, the institute’s current interim chancellor; Mary Holz-Clause, the dean of the College of Agriculture at Cal Poly Pomona in California; and Alan Sams, the executive associate dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University.
The position reports directly to UT President Joe DiPietro, who said the Institute of Agriculture holds a special place in his heart because was chancellor there for four years before becoming the chief executive of the statewide university system in 2011.
