AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Texas Historical Commission officials have approved a modified plan for an addition to the fire-damaged Texas Governor’s Mansion.
The add-on is smaller than the one that stirred so much controversy last year. This isn’t the final step, but the remaining approval needed from state officials is likely to be just a
formality in early June.
The new area will be built onto the back of the historic mansion and won’t be visible from the front.
Mark Wolfe, the historical commission’s executive director, confirmed Wednesday to the Austin American-Statesman that the final design concept was approved.
The 153-year-old home was heavily damaged two years ago in an arson fire while it was vacant.
