Kazan, Russia – Former Texas A&M All-American Cammile Adams of Team USA won the silver medal in the 200-meter butterfly on Thursday at the 2015 FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia.
Adams, who won a pair of NCAA 200 fly crowns for the Aggies in 2013 and 2014, earned her runner-up finish in the race with a time of 2:06.40. Adams was in seventh place at the 100-meter mark, then made her move in the second half of the race. She was in fifth place at the final turn, and picked off the rest of the field as she cruised down the homestretch for silver.
Natsumi Hoshi of Japan was first in a tight race to the finish in 2:05.56. Yufei Zhang of China was third in 2:06.51. Adams teammate, Katie McLaughlin, touched sixth in 2:06.95.
“Watching Ryan (Lochte) right before me (on the medal stand) is what did it,” Adams said. “Hearing the anthem, Katie (McLaughlin) and I, it just amped us both up. The first 100, I just said, ‘Relax, stick to your game plan, stick to your game plan, relax.’ That’s what (coach) David (Marsh) has been saying to me all day. So I did. I really couldn’t see anyone on the last 50 except the girl right next to me, so on the last 25 I said, ‘You just saw Ryan do this. Let’s get it done.”
