Accused Lawmaker Won’t Testify In Own Defense

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ State Rep. Kino Flores will not testify in own defense over criminal allegations that he accepted bribes and failed to report income.

Attorneys for Flores rested their case Monday in Austin without calling the South Texas Democrat to the witness stand. It was an apparent change in strategy after telling jurors last week that Flores would testify.

State District Judge Bob Perkins postponed closing arguments until Tuesday.

Flores, 52, is accused of multiple perjury and ethics violations dating to 2003 and faces up to two years in prison if convicted. He has pleaded not guilty.
