A College Station YMCA Is Not Coming Anytime Soon

For five years, local leaders have been working on bringing a YMCA to the twin cities.

The College Station city council was told at its last meeting that the Houston Y is not in the position to open a local branch anytime soon due to a combination of factors.

Mayor Karl Mooney says the city has been asked by the Houston “Y” to wait until they hire a new chief executive to determine if College Station should control its own “Y”.

Councilman James Benham, who noted a land donation is waiting to establish a local “Y”, also said the Houston “Y” sustained $30 million dollars in damage from hurricane Harvey and they are also in the middle of a capital campaign.
