There has been a change in the Brazos Valley Food Bank’s expansion plan.
Instead of expanding their current location, Executive Director Theresa Mangapora said they plan to buy the Kristen Distributing Company’s warehouse on Independence Avenue off FM 2818 in Bryan.
“It’s on five acres, where we were only at three acres. And the building, as it is without any renovations, already has more space than our expansion plan would,” said Mangapora.
Below are comparison numbers of the previous expansion plan and the Kristen Distributing Warehouse.
- 77% more land than the Food Bank’s current location giving the Food Bank more room to grow in the future
- 26% more space than the Food Bank’s current expansion plan
- 48% more warehouse space than the current expansion plan
- 60% more climate controlled space than the current expansion plan
- 239% more cooler space than the current expansion plan
- Three more loading/receiving docks than current expansion plan
Mangapora said the Food Bank’s priorities will remain the same, including state of the art volunteer space, more storage for fresh and frozen foods, and more space for food in general.
Mangapora said the sale is not final, but they plan to close on the building in December.
