A request to add a second round of parking spaces at a north Bryan park was put on hold at this week’s city council meeting.
Mayor Jason Bienski’s motion to postpone whether to add 14 spaces at Scurry Park, was based on waiting until after hearing recommendations of a parks and recreation master plan.
Bienski also told councilman Rafael Pena, who was able to get 11 spaces built earlier this year, that some neighbors have complained about increased traffic at what was designed to be a neighborhood park.
When Bienski asked Pena if that was his highest priority for the parks in his district, Pena said he was following the wishes of those who have attended his town hall meetings. Pena also said funding for other amenities, including park lighting and playground equipment, could come from the city’s general fund.
The master plan recommendations will be announced September 30th, then considered by the council next month.
Voting for the delay were Bienski, Art Hughes, Chuck Konderla, and Greg Owens. Voting against the postponement were Pena, Al Saenz, and Mike Southerland.
