College Station police say a brief standoff Tuesday afternoon ended peacefully.
Lincoln Avenue near Tarrow was closed for 30 minutes until 37 year old RT Lott, Jr. was arrested on charges he assaulted his wife and evading arrest.
News release from the College Station police department:
On August 11th, 2015 at 2:55 College Station Police Department received a 911 call from a 28 year old female that lived in the 700 block of Lincoln Ave.
The caller reported that she had just been assaulted by her husband, RT Lott Jr. during an argument.
At the time of the 911 call Lott was overheard yelling in the back ground and there were sounds of a possible altercation before the phone line went dead.
Upon arrival the first responding officer observed RT Lott in the front yard and attempted to make contact with him.
Lott then evaded the officer by jumping the fence and running into his residence through the back door.
As additional officers arrived on scene it was discovered that the female victim had already left the residence with her two children before officers arrived.
The Police Department was able to reach RT Lott Jr. over the phone inside the residence at which time he claimed to be suicidal.
A perimeter was established around the residence and a member of the College Station Police Department Hostage Negotiation Team made telephone contact with the suspect. After a short conversation RT Lott gave himself up to officers outside the residence.
The following investigation revealed that RT Lott committed Assault Class A Family Violence as well as Evading Arrest or Detention.
During the incident traffic was shut down on Lincoln Ave for approximately 30 minutes to ensure the safety of citizens.
