Bryan School Board Passes On Tax Increase Election

For the better part of ten years, the Bryan school district has left millions of dollars in state funding on the table. That’s because there’s been no increase in the local tax rate.

Monday, the school board agreed with administrators that there’s not enough time to ask voters in November for a two cent increase.

Superintendent Tommy Wallis says there’s still $3 billion dollars still on the table in Austin that the legislature can spend on public education.

If approved, the Bryan district would have received another $1.7 million in state money…along with $1.3 million from local property owners.
