Arconoda Wins Lewis and Clark Pro Tennis Classic

GODFREY, Illinois – Texas A&M men’s tennis rising sophomore Jordi Arconada claimed the Lewis and Clark Pro Tennis Classic doubles championship Friday afternoon in Godfrey, Illinois hosted by Lewis and Clark Community College. Arconada played alongside Dominic Cotrone of South Florida.

The championship duo swept through the field winning all eight sets in Illinois. Arconada and Cotrone defeated Ankit Chopra (Chattanooga) and Mico Santiago 6-3, 7-5 in round one followed by toppling David Goldhoff and John Mee of Texas; 6-4, 6-0. Will Chappell and Will Stein of TCU were the next to fall in Arconada and Cotrone’s path to the trophy; the Horned Frog duo ranked No. 21 in the ITA’s final 2015 rankings. The title was clinched with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over John Lamble (Santa Clara) and Frederick Saba (Duke) Friday.

Texas A&M men’s tennis is coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history, finishing the season 24-5 after being eliminated by eventual national champion Virginia, 4-0, in the national quarterfinals. The Aggies laid claim to each of the last three SEC trophies handed out; the 2014 tournament championship, the 2015 regular season title and the 2015 tournament crown.
