Williams Earns Silver With Team USA in Pan American Games

TORONTO, Ontario- Texas A&M senior Courtney Williams earned a silver medal with the USA women’s basketball national team at the 2015 Pan American Games, as the USA fell to home-standing Canada 81-73 at the Ryerson Athletic Centre on Monday in the Gold Medal Game.

Williams joins incoming freshman swimmer Sydney Pickrem (bronze/200 IM) as Aggies to medal in the 2015 Pan American Games so far. Williams is the first Texas A&M women’s basketball player to earn a silver medal in an international competition, and only the second to earn a medal of any sort in international play, joining La Toya Micheaux, who earned a bronze medal at the 2007 William Jones Cup.

The United States (4-1) and Canada (5-0) were tied at 36 at halftime, but playing in front of a rowdy home crowd inside the former Maple Leaf Gardens, Canada jumped ahead for good in the third quarter.

Williams had 10 points, nine rebounds, and five assists in the tournament, and started the competition’s first two games for the Red, White and Blue.

Williams joins returning All-Americans Jordan Jones and Courtney Walker on the Aggies’ 2015-16 women’s basketball roster, who will begin their quest for an 11th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance in November.
