Crashes Shut Down Three Local Highways

Three local highways were shut down following crashes.

U.S. Mail trucks figured prominently in two that happened Wednesday.

Highway 21 was blocked by Coulter Field airport due to a crash involving five vehicles. Investigators determined a mail truck that made a u-turn caused the collision of three trucks and a SUV. Four people were taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries not believed to be life threatening. The mail truck was not struck, and the driver was ticketed for making an unsafe lane change.

Before that, the exit ramp off the northbound freeway at Harvey Road was closed for one hour. That’s after the driver of another mail truck took a wild ride. Witnesses told College Station police the truck, going north on the freeway, started swerving then slid into the ditch at the Harvey Road exit. The truck then rolled several times before stopping and facing south. The unidentified driver, who was not ejected, was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries not believed to be life threatening. Police report the mail was recovered and no other vehicles were involved.

And Tuesday during the afternoon commute, westbound traffic on Raymond Stotzer was blocked at Harvey Mitchell after the collision of a car and a truck. College Station police say the drivers of both vehicles were treated for injuries not believed to be life threatening. Officers were told the driver of the truck turned into the path of the car. The impact caused the truck to land on its side.
