Local Law Enforcement Says Lock Your Vehicles!

Chances are if you lock your vehicle, that’s enough to keep burglars away.

College Station police report there’s been 31 break-ins and thefts from Sunday through Friday morning.

In all but two cases, the vehicles were unlocked.

In Bryan, police has received 11 vehicle burglary reports through Thursday, and most of those involved unforced entry.

Joint news release from Bryan police, College Station police, Texas A&M University police, and the Brazos County sheriff’s office:

During the last couple of weeks Bryan/College Station has been experiencing a number of burglaries of motor vehicles.

These crimes have not been confined to one area of Town rather, they have been occurring all over the Brazos County.

The majority of cars targeted are unlocked. We ask everyone to take these simple precautions.

1.) If you have the option always park your car inside a closed and locked garage.

2.) If you must leave your car outside, LOCK IT, even if you plan to return shortly. ALWAYS LOCK YOUR CAR, anytime you get out of it.

3.) Do not leave anything of value in the vehicle or at the very least; keep these items out of sight. Remove purses, briefcases, laptops, GPS systems, telephones and chargers and any other item of value. Remove the holders for these items as well. Leaving a GPS holder in sight merely alerts a burglar that you have the device and encourages them to enter and rummage through compartments and under seats to find them.

4.) Immediately report any burglary or any other suspicious activity.

Be on the lookout for anyone who appears to be loitering around vehicles, spending an inordinate amount of time looking in car windows, pulling on car door handles, and things of that nature.

Call 9-1-1 immediately if you see anything suspicious so that we can check it out.

The safety of our community does not have borders. It is the goal of every law enforcement agency to protect the citizens that we serve. Be the eyes and ears of your police department.

When you see suspicious activity contact the Texas A&M University Police Department at 979-845-2345; the College Station Police Department at 979-764-3600; or the Bryan Police Department or the Brazos County Sheriff’s Department at 979-361-3888.
