Kaser Named to Ray Guy Award Watch List

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Two-time Ray Guy Award semifinalist Drew Kaser was named to the award’s 2015 “watch list” for his senior campaign at Texas A&M.

Kaser, from Strongsville, Ohio, was one of three Ray Guy Award finalists in 2013 and a semifinalist in 2014. He joins 24 other watch list members, including all three 2014 finalists, including last year’s winner. Joining Kaser from the SEC on the prestigious list were Devon Bell of Mississippi State, Will Gleeson of Ole Miss, Jamie Keehn of LSU and JK Scott of Alabama.

Kaser’s sophomore and junior seasons were impressive with the 6-foot-3, 210-pound punter averaging a school record 47.4 yards in 2013 and 44.1 in 2014. Last year, Kaser took down another record of longtime NFL All-Pro Shane Lechler by depositing 22 punts inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. Kaser enters 2015 with a career punt average of 45.5, which is on pace to break Lechler’s school record of 44.7 set from 1996-99.

The number of eligible candidates for this season will grow when the award opens for nominations in September. The complete list of candidates will be released on October 30.  In early November, the Ray Guy Award committee will meet to select the 10 semi-finalists, who will be announced on November 13. A national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, coaches, media representatives, and previous Ray Guy Award winners will then vote for the top three finalists, to be announced on November 23. After the finalists are named, the voting body will cast ballots again to select the nation’s top punter. The winner will be announced live during The Home Depot College Football Awards airing on ESPN on Thursday, December 10, 2015.
