Bryan School Board Makes False Statements a Punishable Offense

False statements made about students and employees in the Bryan school district will now result in punishment.

That’s after the Bryan school board updated the district’s code of conduct at this week’s workshop.

Board member Trey Moore referred to an incident last year where a student got away with making a damaging statement about a teacher.

Slander and libel laws were discussed, but in the end the board decided to include its own punishment for someone who makes false statements. The school district’s attorney was directed to compose language and proposed punishment.
