CSISD Students Awards at National Contest

Students from A&M Consolidated High School and College Station High School recently combined to win two national championships and four second place awards at the annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, Ky.

The CSHS Video Game Design Team of Bryson Greenwood, Tyler Hogan, Aggela Polymenis and Pablo Villalobos won top honors in the nation, while CSHS’s Chase Zamulinski won the national championship in photography. It was the second year in a row for CSHS to win the national championship in video game design.

In addition, CSISD captured four second-place national finishes:

• 3D Animation Team – Kyle Krusekopf, Jared Lascurain (AMCHS)

• Career Pathway Showcase in Information Technology Team – Patrick Diaz, Ann Yue, Ellen Li, Kelly Krenek, Erika Salzman (AMCHS)

• Quiz Bowl Team – Jaitao Liang, Mark Cahill, Cahill Ordones, Samuel Park, Marcus Vami (CSHS)
• Related Technical Mathematics – Erika Salzman (AMCHS)

CSHS and AMCHS students competed and placed in seven other events:

• Technical Computer Applications – 4th Place – Yuchen Gao (AMCHS)
• Medical Terminology – 5th Place – Ellen Li (AMCHS)
• Advertising Design – 8th Place – Erica Branham (AMCHS)
• Television Video Production Team – 8th Place – Amanda Herrera, Ras Goodwyn (AMCHS)
• Telecommunication and Cabling – 9th Place – Johnathan Chang (AMCHS)
• Web Page Design Team – 16th Place – Ryan Feigenbaum, Zachary Russell (CSHS)
• Carpentry – CSHS – 21st Place – John Cassler (CSHS)

In all, 27 students from AMCHS and CSHS qualified and traveled to Louisville, Ky., to participate in the conference, the largest showcase and competition for career and technical education students. The students participated in eight days of leadership training and competitions.

In addition to the contests, the A&M Consolidated Information Technology Chapter 3561 was recognized at the Opening Ceremony for receiving the Presidential Volunteer Service Award Gold level. To earn this award, the chapter volunteered over 1,000 hours of volunteer service. The students and advisor were recognized with a gold pin and a letter from President Obama.

The Consol Chapter was also recognized on stage at the awards ceremony as a Models of Excellence chapter, which ranks the chapter in community impact, leadership, excellence and skills. The Models of Excellence award ranked Consol as one of the top eight chapters in the nation.

AMCHS student Kelly Krenek was recognized for receiving a Mike Rowe Works Foundation Scholarship. In addition to the monetary award, she received a prize bag. Her travel scholarship will help send her to the Washington D.C. Leadership event in September.

More than 16,000 students, advisors and volunteers from all 50 states attendance from all fifty states and territories including Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands were in attendance. Students competed in over 100 different events making SkillsUSA the largest skilled and technical contest in the Nation.
